The spiritual body that G-d gave us
“Pray let me cross over and see the good land that is on the
other side of the Jordan, this good mountain and the Lebanon.” Deuteronomy 3:25 (JPS)
In Parashat Vaetchanan (Deuteronomy 3:23–7:11), Moshe Rabbenu tells Yisrael that he beseeched Hashem to allow him to enter Eretz Israel. We know, in fact, that he earnestly entreated Hashem 515 times. Wonderfully, the gematria of the word Vaetchanan is also 515.
The midrash brings that Hashem asked Moshe Rabbenu to stop his prayers. Had Moshe not stopped his prayers, Hashem would have had to grant him permission to enter the land. Thus, we understand the principle that when a person prays many times it is as if the person “forces” Hashem to do his will.
A question arises: How is it possible that I don’t have whatever I want? Many sages addressed this
issue and the conclusion they reached is that the person has either not prayed for what he desires or has not prayed enough. But if someone prayed enough times with the proper strength, Hashem would likely grant the petition...
