Death and Spiritual Garments
Kabbalistic Insights from the Zohar on Parashas
Vayechi 5783
'After burying his father, Yoseif [Joseph] returned to Mitzrayim [Egypt]; he and his brothers, and all who had gone up with him to bury his father.'
– Bereishis (Genesis) 50:14
The Zohar in page 223b speaks about what happens after a person passes away. The language used is unusually harsh about the importance of living in accordance with the Torah during our lifetime. It states that a person who does not follow the ways of the Torah is
called “dead”. Such people, who refuse to hear the words of Torah, are blind. They don’t look for the meaning and purpose of life, of creation, and of our existence.
