In Jewish tradition, there is a six to eight week period known as Shovavim, which begins with the week corresponding to the reading of Parashas Shemos, the first parashah (portion) of Seifer Shemos (the Book of Exodus).
The word Shovavim
is a Hebrew acronym for the following Torah portions: Shemos, Vaeira, Bo, Beshalach, Yisro, and Mishpatim. It is an auspicious time to make a tikkun (rectification) for sexual sins, especially for spilling seed in vain.
