A time to connect with Hashem

Sukkot is a very special holiday; it marks the close relationship between Hashem and His people. It is a time when we can establish a more direct and intimate connection with our Creator. Being in the sukkah is one of the mitzvot that we perform with our whole bodies.

The sukkah symbolizes the Divine Providence that fully surrounds us during this period. It hints at the surrounding light and is connected to the concept of Bitul (nullification of the self/ego). Since the gap between oneself and the surrounding light is so great, it is as if one doesn't exist at all. This is akin to looking at the Earth from the stars; it is so distant that you can hardly see the Earth. If this is true in the physical sense, it is even more so in the spiritual realm.
 

As Rabbi Chaim Vital writes in Eitz Chaim, all of the stars are below the world of "Assiah." There are an infinite number of worlds above Assiah. We are far distant from the Ayn Sof, Who surrounds all; it is beyond imagination.

We need to take advantage of this opportunity, nullify our egos, and concentrate on receiving abundance from Hashem.
