This year, since Purim falls on a Sunday, the fast is moved to Thursday. It's crucial to understand that the fast of Esther plays a pivotal role in the narrative of Purim.
We often focus solely on the festivities of Purim – hearing the Megillah, indulging in food and drink, and celebrating joyously. But have you ever stopped and ask yourself: how the Jewish people merited such a miraculous deliverance?
How to nullify an evil decree
Esther's decision to institute the three consecutive days of fasting for the Jewish people, including children, highlights the gravity of the situation they faced. She understood that the only recourse was to turn to Hashem with unwavering faith and
trust.
Our sages impart a profound wisdom – the physical actions we undertake have the power to awaken the spiritual realms. Esther's call for fasting was a tangible expression of their desire to draw closer to Hashem, transcending
physical desires and emulating angelic devotion through prayer and self-denial.
The Jewish people sought a divine intervention, a miraculous salvation. To merit such divine intervention, they needed to transcend their natural
inclinations. Through fasting and prayer, they demonstrated their bitachon in Hashem, acknowledging His sovereignty over the situation and their lives.
Kabbalistic Tikkun
The fast of Esther is a
special time when we can ask for help to overcome problems in our lives. During this fast, there's a special kabbalistic tikkun that can make our prayers even stronger.
Rabbi Shepherd will be doing this special tikkun for anyone who
donates to King David Kabbalah. It helps make our fasting and prayers more powerful, so we have a better chance of getting the help we need.
The fast of Esther is also unique because we can do three important things all on the same
day: repentance, give to charity, and pray. Unlike other special days like Yom Kippur, where we can't give to charity, on the fast of Esther, we can. Doing all three things together increases our chances of getting help when we need it most.
Take advantage of this opportunity and change your life for the better! May this be the year where you see salvations, the year that all the blessings come into
your life, the year of redemption!
