Whenever Heshy saw the old suitcase come down from the attic, his heart dropped. Even though he was young, Heshy knew what it meant. His father will be going for Rosh Hashanah.
Every year his father went to, Mezibuz, Ukraine. He went to the Tzaddik, the Baal Shem Tov for Rosh Hashanah.
When Tatty [father] went Heshy sorely missed him. It was a long journey in their rickety carriage and old horse.
Heshy, with his head down and little feet scuffing the floor, sadly asked: "Tatty, why do you go?"
His father saw the tears in Heshy's eyes, reached down and picked up the lad, gently setting him down on his lap "Because I want us to have a good year" he lovingly said. "Because I want to pray for you and Mommy and all your brothers and sisters. I want us all to have a wonderful year".
Heshy always wanted to go. but every year his father said, "I am sorry my dear boy, you are too small Heshy."
"Next Year?" he pleadingly asked?
But year after year, the same response "Hmm... we"ll see..."
Finally this year, after his Bar Mitzvah, he can go! Heshy brimmed with excitement.
As they approached the town on the rickety carriage, Heshy saw throngs of people heading toward the city of Mezibuz, Ukraine. It seemed like the whole world was heading toward the small town of the Tzaddik.
"Tatty!" Heshy exclaimed, "Are they all going to the Baal Shem Tov?"
His father, with a twinkle in his eyes, smiled and responded: "They all want to have a good year too!"
Prayers by a Tzaddik are especially helpful before Rosh Hashanah.
One of the Kabbalists of King David Kabbalah will be going to the Tomb of the Baal Shem Tov and many other Tzaddikim in Europe to pray for all of the supporters of King David Kabbalah.
