How are they connected?
The Arizal says the definition of Teshuva is "Tashuv Hay" which means that the letter Hay will return.
Which hay? The last Hay of YKVK
YKVK corresponds to the 10 sefirot. The last Hay corresponds to the sefira of Malchut.
When you do a sin it separates the Hay from the rest of the Name. When you do teshuva you reconnect the Hay to the rest of the name.
With this, we already have a basic meditation for Elul. So meditate how the Hay reconnects with the rest of the Name.
Why is this important? We spoke many times about Yechudim or unity. the way of kedusha is to go to higher and higher levels of unity. Big Tzaddikim go to higher and higher levels of unity. The Ramchal speaks about this at length.
On the other side is the opposite. Someone who does a sin creates separation. They separate the last Hay from the first 3 letters of the Name.
There are many any many levels for this. If they do a small sin the separation is temporary. If you do a bigger sin than there is a greater separation and it's harder to reconnect. If someone does an even bigger sin than it can cause the Hay to fall to even lower dimensions. And it will be much harder to reconnect the Hay back.
As much as a person does a greater sin, with more enthusiasm and understanding, and desire in the sin, it makes the Hay go to a lower level. Then the Teshuva needs stronger.
So whatever positive things you are doing in your life it needs to be stronger and more.
