This is a little taste of our ebook on Shavuot.
It is brought down in many places that on the night of Shavuot we learn certain parts of Tanach (Torah Neviem and Ketuvim) called Tikkun Leil Shavuot. There are many meditations for this one basic meditation that you do not need a special siddur for is:
1. The general understanding of Tikkun Leil Shavuot in the Zohar is that on the night of Shavuot we are helping the bride prepare for her wedding day. The bride is the Shechinah. How do we help the bride prepare for the wedding? first we give her jewelry to adorn her. What is
the jewelry in our parable “chidushay Torah” While learning, when one has chiddushim (new understanding), giving one has an opportunity to meditate,
Take a few moments to examine the context of ones learning for new understandings. Meditate that this is the Jewelry that you are giving the bride, adorning the Shechinah. Take time to contemplate on the new ideas and understandings. Although we cannot do this for all the readings since we do not have the time but at least find a few spots stay there for
a moment or two think about it try to get extra inspiration a new idea that will be the unique Jewelry that you gave the Shechinah on the wedding day witch comes out on Shavuot!
2. It is brought down by the Arizal and a few other sources that the Torah is Tiferet, The Nevi'im/Prophets are Netzach and Hod, lastly, The Ketuvim/Writings are
Malchut.
When we read the verses from the Torah we receive nourishment from the Tiferet When we read the verses from the Neviim we receive nourishment from the Netzach, Hod, When we read the verses from the Ketuvim we receive nourishment from the Yesod, and Malchut (witch it is why it is related to Dovid Hamelech). Altogether there are 24 books in the
Tanach (Torah Nevi’im Ketuvim). These books also correspond to the 24 names combinations of the Shechinah, A-D-N-Y witch is written out alef daled nun then yud (and we are not allowed to pronounce this name except when praying.) When taking every possible combination using the four letters of this Name it matches the number of the books in Tikkun Leil Shavuot. This name is related to the Shechina and this is the source of our souls in a certain way. There are other sets of names that
align with other books, we will not be addressing.
We are preparing the bride for the wedding by saying over Tikkun Leil Shavuot. All the abundance from Tiferet the Torah, and the Netzach and Hod in the Nevi’im and the Yesod in the Ketuvim comes down to Malchut witch is the shechinah with is Adny. When we make all possible combinations of
the 4 letters we get 24 combinations. The 24 combinations correspond to the 24 books in the Tanach. For each book, we read we meditate on a different combination (name). There is also another set of Holy names with which each book is related to a specific name. Although even without knowing the specific name or combination just by knowing that when you read the pesukim there is certain nourishment that is going through the channel of those names coming to an aspect of the
Shechina that is also a very valuable meditation!
When we learn the Torah of this Tikkun we stimulate the abundance to come down through the spiritual conduits culminating in Malchut; which is a very valuable process and outcome.
If you finish the verses before sunrise, it is highly recommended to learn Kabbalah. If you are not able to do this then learn other Torah because Someone who is sitting and doing nothing or chatting idly with a friend; it is likened to sleeping. Since there is a promise by the
Ariza”l that one that does not sleep during Shavuot no harm will get to him that year, Therefore try as much as possible without hurting yourself to push and stay awake learning the whole night.
Continue to be immersed in Torah!
