To Harness the power of this auspicious day it is good to accept on yourself a fast from the previous day (Wednesday before sunset) and say to Hashem;

"I am accepting on myself, a conditional fast. If I am able and decide that I want to do the fast it will apply from dawn 72 minutes before sunrise till nightfall, 18 minutes after sunset. if I will not be able to complete the fast for any reason after I will say 3 times the Tehillim "mizmor le David Hashem roie lo echsar" (Psalm 23) this will cancel the vow, and I will not be caught in
the sin of breaking vows. but please Hashem give me the strength to fast in front of You! for the atonement of myself and all of the people that related to me, specifically [Here you can say the names, people, that you would like the merit of the fast to apply to the] and with this merit, please Hashem send us all a complete and full recovery and health! to our physical emotional mental and spiritual dimensions of our being. Please let us observe your light, and fill our being with joy and
happiness. To be able to see in this going month of Adar revealed divine providence and miracles above nature! with the merit of Dovid Hamelech and all of the righteous people."
On the day of the fast please try to stay focused on these intentions mentioned in the prayer above.  it is recommended to spend the day in prayer and learning, and things that will awaken your heart to yearn for Hashem.  Before sunset on the day of the fast after Mincha preferably, say over the following prayer;

"Thank you, Hashem, for allowing me to fast in front of You, please let my fat and blood that has been decreased in this day count as a sacrifice, to give me and the people that are related to me atonement for our sins, with this merit please send us all a complete and full recovery and health! to our physical emotional mental and spiritual dimensions of our
being.  Please let us observe your light, and fill our being with joy and happiness.  To be able to see in this going month of Adar revealed divine providence and miracles above nature! with the merit of Dovid Hamelech and all of the righteous people."
