Moshe Rabbeinu,worked very hard to purify his body and soul that his whole being was directed to ther service of Hashem. Moshe's prophecy is completely and fundamentally different from other prophecy. As the Rambam explains;
Believe with complete faith that Moshe Rabbeinu is the father of all the prophets before and after him, all of whom were beneath him in stature. Achieving a greater knowledge of the Almighty than anyone before or since. Moshe Rabbeinu reached a level that surpasses human attainment and similar to the angelic. There was no physical limitation that hindered him, In
achieving this [level], he lost his sensual and imaginative faculties; his drives and desires ceased, no deficiency, great or small, to confuse him. All his sensory and imaginative powers were repressed, leaving only pure reason. (Perek Chelek, 7th principle)
the Rambam continues in his work on pirkay avos, that Even Moshe could not attain fully the level of the angels, since as a mortal, formed from physical substance, his intellect was limited by the material, which separated him from God. This is the highest level of prophecy. The messages which he received from God are the most perfect
messages that a human being is capable of receiving. The absolute validity of the Torah as taught by Moshe is derived from the absolute superiority of his prophecy.
What makes Moshe's prophecy differ from that of other prophets? (1) the other prophets experience prophecy in a dream of a vision, while Moshe prophesizes while he is awake and standing… (2) manny of the other prophets receive their prophecy through an angel, and hence they perceive the message through metaphor like. Moshe Rabbeinu, in contrast, does not prophesize through the agency of an angel, as it is written, “And
God spoke to Moshe face to face” (Shemot 33:11); (3) All of the other prophets are fearful and some fell by the experience of prophecy, but not so Moshe… (4) None of the other prophets are able to prophesize whenever they wish to. But this is not the case concerning Moshe: whenever he so wishes, He need not focus his thoughts and prepare himself, for he is in a constant state of preparedness and readiness, like
the ministering angels; therefore, he can prophesize at any time. (“Laws of the Foundations of the Torah,” 7:6)
But were is Prophecy today?, there is a story ;
The Sages decided that they were going to capture and imprison the Yetzer HaRa. So they ordered a complete fast of three day and some other things whereupon the Yetzer was captured by them. It came forth from the Holy of Holies like a fiery lion, the Yetzer said to them, “Realize that if you kill me, the world is finished.” They held him
for three days, At first, they saw that thievery stopped, murder ceased, People were suddenly friendly and loving toward one another. There was no jealousy, and in all the land no arguments occurred, and moreover, no one died. But something was missing,
then they looked in the whole land of Israel and not an egg could be found. (since there were no inclinations there was also no reproductions, therefore no eggs nor babies could be made) So they wondered, “What shall we do now?” What shall we do
now? Shall we kill him? The world would then go down. They put out one of its eyes and let it go; (Yoma 69b). Our sages learned how important the evil urge is to the world. (Midrash Genesis Rabbah 9:7). It is said that in the time to come the Yetzer Harah will be 'white' will only give urges that are constructive.
What does it mean they took out one eye? meaning they weakened the yetzer, the urge to commit the sins of idol worship and incest were reduced to something minuscule. But along with that Prophecy was also reduced... The Ariza"l said that we still have the following 2 levels of prophecy; we have left is Ruach Hakodosh and sparks of Ruach
Hakodosh. Very soon Bezrat Hashem in the days of Mashiach prophecy will return!
