Rabbi Isaac Luria Ashkenazi (1534-1572), better known as the Arizal was the father of the modern Kabbalah. He was born in Jerusalem, at a young age his father passed away so his mother took him to Egypt to a wealthy uncle of his. Time passed and the Ari started to gain more popularity. He moved to Safed where he met with one, if not the closest, of his
closer students: Rabbi Chaim Vital.
The Arizal, even though he lived few years, accomplished to transfer a lot of his wisdom to his students and the generations to follow. At that time the main Kabbalist of Safed was the Ramak (Rabbi Moses Cordovero), when he passed away the Arizal started to teach Kabbalah. The rabbis started to question themselves asking “who does this young men thinks he
is to teach such an advanced topic?” The Radbaz (Rabbi David ben Solomon ibn Abi Zimra) came to the Ari and forbade him to continue teaching, then he saw a signal (some say it was Elijah the prophet) that his ruling was wrong and let The Arizal continue his teachings.
